I see now that we were supposed to pick a holiday. Oops. Uhm, two come to mind, outside the regular ones. (Which you're free to pick instead, if you like.) Tolkien Reading Day and International Literacy Day. Both days that might make more people come into the bookstore, much to Bernard/Jensen's(?) annoyance. (I tried to find a Drinking & Smoking Day but apparently there is none. Hmph.) Tolkien Reading Day on first look seems to have more potential but whatever floats your boat. *hugs*

It all goes to hell when Sandy and Jared hook up.

Jensen likes Sandy, of course--she is, after all, one of the only people in the world who can drink as much as he can, and in Jensen's life, that counts for a lot. Plus they are old and dear friends and all that, but the important thing is really just the drinking.

Jared he doesn't like, exactly. Jared is too large--Jensen is shocked at times that he fits in the store at all--and too friendly and kind of a hyperactive, overenthusiastic dog of a person. But that doesn't mean Sandy's just allowed to hook up with him. Jared works for Jensen, which means Jensen pays him, and therefore Jensen is actually paying Jared's rent and buying his food, so it's kind of like he owns Jared.

"You know slavery is still illegal, right?" asks Sandy, when Jensen makes this argument the night after the hook-up.

"That's why I pay him," Jensen says. "Why the hell did you sleep with him?"

"Have you noticed he's hot?"

"No," Jensen lies.

"Well, he is. I'd be crazy not to sleep with him."

"You are crazy," says Jensen.

"Have you talked to him about this?"

"I try not to talk to him."

Sandy sighs. "Two consenting adults are allowed to have whatever sex they want to, Jensen."

"Well, you shouldn't want to. It's Jared."

Sandy pats him on the head. "How could I forget."

"Do you have The Life of Pi?"

Jensen barely glances up at the voice. He's too busy pointedly ignoring Jared to help the customers.

"You should try a bakery," says Jensen. "Way more pie there."

"No, Pi, P-I, like the irrational number."

"Or the private detective," Jared supplies.

Jensen looks up just to glare at him. "Then try a math class or an old movie and leave me alone."

The customer leaves, and Jared sits down next to him. "You're charming today."

"Fuck you."

"Why do you care if I have sex with Sandy?"

"I want to have sex with Sandy."

"You do not," says Jared.

"Aren't you supposed to be helping people?"

"You hate people," Jared points out.

"Yeah, that's why I hired you. You help people, I get drunk in the back room, no one fucks Sandy."

"I thought you wanted to have sex with Sandy."

"No, you didn't. You didn't believe me. Will you leave me alone?"

"Nah."

"Then I'm firing you."

"If you don't fire me, I'll blow you in the back room," says Jared.

"You're kind of a man-whore," says Jensen. "First fucking Sandy, then blowing me? In, what, two days?"

"If you start fucking me, I'll stop fucking everyone else," says Jared.

"Interesting," says Jensen. "Why would I care?"

Jared beams. "You like me."

"I don't like people."

"But you like me," says Jared.

Jensen sighs. "How about you just blow me and we call it even?"

"Deal," says Jared, smugly, and Jensen thinks he might not have come out ahead on this one.

But he is going to get his dick sucked. So at least there's that.

But Jared needs a beard.

Hence, Sandy.
