Jared decides his first day partnered with Jensen I'm going to hit that.

Jensen says, "Just try to keep up," like having Jared along is going to be a huge burden.

"I have really long legs," says Jared, shaking his foot. "It's not gonna be a problem."

Three weeks later, and he still hasn't fucked Jensen. It's probably the longest it has ever taken him to fuck someone. It's really upsetting.

"What are you doing after work?" he asks Jensen.

"Sleeping," says Jensen. "For a week. Jesus, you nearly got killed."

There's actual concern in his voice, and Jared stares for a minute, surprised. "Jensen," he starts. "Man, I'm not--I'm fine. And I knew you had my back."

"You can't just depend on everyone thinking the sun shines out your ass," says Jensen. He's not looking at him, but his back is rigid and tense. "Some people are going to try to hurt you."

"Well, come get a drink and tell me how much I suck," Jared suggests gently.

"Fuck you," says Jensen, and storms off.

That might be a good sign.

Working with Jensen is really fun. And, yes, horribly dangerous sometimes, but Jensen is funny and irritable and gorgeous, and it actually drives Jared crazy.

He at least has the satisfaction of knowing he drives Jensen crazy too.

"You cannot sign autographs on a stake-out," Jensen hisses.

"But she wanted one!"

"You're not here to be Jared Padalecki, famous author. You're here to be Jared Padalecki, inconspicuous human being!"

"We're hiding in plain sight."

Jensen glares at him.

"We should make out," Jared continues. "They'll never suspect us."

"Jesus," Jensen mutters. "What did I do to deserve this?"

"You must have been really awesome in a previous life," says Jared innocently.

Finally, just when Jared is about to go crazy, he gets shot.

Okay, so the getting shot part itself? That is painful and awful. But Jensen is so worried, and he keeps saying ridiculous things about how Jared isn't allowed to die, and it's pretty heartening.

If Jared could talk, he'd be totally smug about it.

When he wakes up, he's in the hospital, and Jensen is next to him, head resting on his hands, knuckles white. He looks like he hasn't slept, but he might have cried.

"Hey," Jared manages, croakily.

"You are a fucking dumbass," says Jensen. "God, Jared, we've talked about--fuck."

Jared smiles weakly. "He was gonna shoot you."

"And him shooting you is so much better," Jensen says, glaring at him.

"Yeah," Jared says. He lets himself smile softly, all affection, and Jensen's eyes widen. "It is."

Jensen opens and closes his mouth a few times.

"So please tell me I'm gonna get laid now," says Jared. "Because I haven't gotten laid since I met you, and I'm going crazy."

Jensen continues gaping, and finally manages, "You haven't?"

"No. Have you?"

"No, but you're--" Jensen waves his hand. "I just--you--" he shuts his mouth. "You want to fuck me?"

"Yes," says Jared. "Obviously."

Jensen laughs shakily. "Like you weren't already a big enough pain in my ass."

"You are the worst partner I've ever had," says Jensen.

"I thought all this aggression was just misplaced sexual tension," Jared whines. "And now that we're together, you'd start being nice to me."

"I'll start being nice to you when you stop being an idiot."

Jared pouts. "So never."

Jensen manages to glare for about half a second, but then he loses it and starts laughing. "Yeah, never."

It sounds a lot like forever, and Jared beams.

As a disclaimer, I have never seen the show, so I cannot speak to the accuracy of this fic.

By the way, I think it works that you've never seen Castle. It wasn't like you wrote a mini-Castle fic and then stuck Jensen and Jared's names into the story. It stood on it's own and they each had their own unique quirks while still following the basic premise of "Castle." Great job. :)
