"Why did this seem like a good idea?" asks Jensen.
"Trial run for moving in together, remember?" says Jared. "To see how it worked."
"So we're never moving in together," says Jensen.
On the back of the couch, Goldie hisses and swipes a paw at Harley's snout. Harley dodges and slinks off, clearly terrified.
"It wasn't that bad," says Jared.
"Your dog at a turkey leg and nearly choked to death, and my kid punched your kid in the face."
"My kid was being a dick," says Jared. "And Becky said she was sorry and cried."
Jensen snorts. "Probably just cuz she's worried Santa's going to put her on the naughty list now."
"And that's why Santa is useful." Jared pulls Jensen down next to him on the couch as he passes by.
"There are still dishes," says Jensen, but it's a token protest. He settles in next to Jared.
"They'll keep," says Jared, leaning in and kissing Jensen.
"We have presents to put out. And I think Sadie wants to eat Lilac."
"Lilac took a page out of Goldie's book," says Jared. Sadie got a face full of claws, she's hiding under the bed."
Jensen laughs. "So my cats beat up your dog."
"And your kid beat up my kid," Jared agrees. "I think we're seeing who the dominant family here is."
"I'm really sorry Becky hit Tyler," says Jensen, leaning his head against Jared's shoulder.
"Violence isn't the answer, but Tyler shouldn't have called her an orphan girl." Jared sighs. "He's still mad he didn't get to spend Christmas with his mom this year. And that I've got someone else in my life."
"That's no excuse," says Jensen.
Jared kisses the top of his head. "Well, she's sorry." He sighs. "We still need to put the presents out."
"Are your dogs going to eat them?"
"I figured they'd spend the night in the garage."
"That could work."
Jared gives Jensen one more kiss before he gets up to round up the dogs. "Hey," he says, too casually, over his shoulder. "At least next year'll probably be better."
Jensen's face blooms into a grin at that. "Yeah," he agrees. "Nowhere to go but up."
